A Night of Performance, Passion, and Progress: Students Demonstrate Their Skills at DeSales Got Talent
As the music grew loud and students cheered, everybody sat at the edge of their seats waiting to see what was in store for them during this year’s DeSales Got Talent.
Showcasing a range of talents from singing and dancing to playing guitar and performing original songs, each student performer brought forth unique skills to captivate the audience. As each act finished, every performer left the stage to a standing ovation and resounding cheers from the energetic crowd.
While it was the first time for some student performers, that was not the case for everyone. “It’s a little nerve-racking at first,” said Zymere Flucas ’24, a TV/film major, “but by the time we all get on stage, it all works out.”
With the performance of his original song “Just Show Off & Dance,” Flucas electrified the room and got the whole crowd dancing and clapping.
After experiencing all 10 performances and participating in giveaways, raffle games, and dance-offs, students cast their votes. For many performers, winning would have been an added bonus to an already spectacular night. But for Larry Agyei ’24, a business administration major and soccer player, winning meant so much more.
Ever since high school, Agyei had been making music inspired by the many ups and downs of his personal life. Winning this year meant progressing from second place last year. “You win some, you lose some,” he said as he reflected on both his performance last year and his triumphs in life.
When the winner was announced and Agyei was called forward, the men’s soccer team cheered him on as if he had just scored the game-winning goal. “We are just like a bunch of brothers, they always have my back whether on or off the field,” he said as he humbly smiled. “I’m fortunate and grateful for everyone’s support.”
