This state-of-the-art digital lab provides hands-on experience in the software and systems used by today’s top psychology and criminal justice professionals.
1
00:00:01,820 --> 00:00:09,540
the psychology and the criminal justice

2
00:00:04,589 --> 00:00:12,870
program are very excited to have a new

3
00:00:09,540 --> 00:00:15,269
facility this is a smart classroom and

4
00:00:12,870 --> 00:00:18,180
all students have access to a computer

5
00:00:15,269 --> 00:00:20,640
and they're all embedded in their desks

6
00:00:18,180 --> 00:00:23,730
and the good thing about the smart

7
00:00:20,640 --> 00:00:26,490
classroom and the smart board is that we

8
00:00:23,730 --> 00:00:29,609
can write to the board make some notes

9
00:00:26,490 --> 00:00:32,480
and the students can have access to the

10
00:00:29,609 --> 00:00:35,820
notes that were discussed in class and

11
00:00:32,480 --> 00:00:39,230
we can also connect some of our

12
00:00:35,820 --> 00:00:43,800
peripheral gadgets such as an ipad and

13
00:00:39,230 --> 00:00:46,079
SPSS is an expectant skill for students

14
00:00:43,800 --> 00:00:47,789
in the social sciences all of them will

15
00:00:46,079 --> 00:00:50,090
have to do research all of them will

16
00:00:47,789 --> 00:00:53,100
have to learn how to analyze data and

17
00:00:50,090 --> 00:00:55,739
the fact that this is now accessible to

18
00:00:53,100 --> 00:00:58,920
them is a big addition to their learning

19
00:00:55,739 --> 00:01:01,739
experience this room is being shared by

20
00:00:58,920 --> 00:01:03,989
the psychology program and the criminal

21
00:01:01,739 --> 00:01:05,610
justice program as a criminal justice

22
00:01:03,989 --> 00:01:07,350
major with you know concentration

23
00:01:05,610 --> 00:01:09,990
digital forensics this classroom is

24
00:01:07,350 --> 00:01:12,630
really beneficial because the laptops

25
00:01:09,990 --> 00:01:16,650
have forensic software such as in case

26
00:01:12,630 --> 00:01:18,420
and celebrate that show students this

27
00:01:16,650 --> 00:01:20,490
software is actually used in the field

28
00:01:18,420 --> 00:01:22,799
today so you know the students are going

29
00:01:20,490 --> 00:01:24,420
to update software that you know the

30
00:01:22,799 --> 00:01:27,119
professionals use so you know we can

31
00:01:24,420 --> 00:01:29,490
learn how to solve crime how to get

32
00:01:27,119 --> 00:01:31,439
evidence off the phones just like your

33
00:01:29,490 --> 00:01:33,630
professionals and you know people in the

34
00:01:31,439 --> 00:01:35,790
field do just from you know working in

35
00:01:33,630 --> 00:01:37,470
the lab a little bit to the you know

36
00:01:35,790 --> 00:01:38,729
academics here you know you're getting

37
00:01:37,470 --> 00:01:40,950
the whole spectrum you know you're

38
00:01:38,729 --> 00:01:44,340
seeing how professionals use the data

39
00:01:40,950 --> 00:01:46,500
and how you can help solve crime using

40
00:01:44,340 --> 00:01:47,700
technology we've got two conference

41
00:01:46,500 --> 00:01:49,950
rooms that we can be used for multiple

42
00:01:47,700 --> 00:01:52,200
purposes both for students to meet and

43
00:01:49,950 --> 00:01:54,270
discuss their research but also allow

44
00:01:52,200 --> 00:01:56,640
them to run research where they can

45
00:01:54,270 --> 00:01:58,259
observe participants so in between the

46
00:01:56,640 --> 00:02:00,180
two conference rooms is a smaller room

47
00:01:58,259 --> 00:02:01,710
with two-way mirrors so that

48
00:02:00,180 --> 00:02:03,900
participants can be in one

49
00:02:01,710 --> 00:02:05,580
the rooms doing a task and then we can

50
00:02:03,900 --> 00:02:07,260
record them without them seeing

51
00:02:05,580 --> 00:02:08,039
themselves being watched which allows

52
00:02:07,260 --> 00:02:09,959
her a little bit more of that

53
00:02:08,039 --> 00:02:12,270
naturalistic environment which is great

54
00:02:09,959 --> 00:02:13,830
this room here is going to be used

55
00:02:12,270 --> 00:02:16,170
mostly for the psychophysiological

56
00:02:13,830 --> 00:02:18,090
testing equipment so we've got the

57
00:02:16,170 --> 00:02:19,860
larger computer so we can actually look

58
00:02:18,090 --> 00:02:21,420
at some of this data which would be

59
00:02:19,860 --> 00:02:23,550
really powerful and then we have a small

60
00:02:21,420 --> 00:02:25,620
room that we can use for interviews

61
00:02:23,550 --> 00:02:27,180
what's really exciting new equipment so

62
00:02:25,620 --> 00:02:29,910
we have this one main box that we use

63
00:02:27,180 --> 00:02:31,650
that can attach all sorts of external

64
00:02:29,910 --> 00:02:34,680
equipment so we can look at things like

65
00:02:31,650 --> 00:02:36,750
heart rate blood pressure skin

66
00:02:34,680 --> 00:02:39,150
temperature we can do reaction time

67
00:02:36,750 --> 00:02:40,920
stead you use really basic EEG so this

68
00:02:39,150 --> 00:02:42,840
really expands the opportunities for our

69
00:02:40,920 --> 00:02:44,010
students there's a lot of things that we

70
00:02:42,840 --> 00:02:45,750
would have liked to demonstrate in

71
00:02:44,010 --> 00:02:48,269
classes in the past that we couldn't do

72
00:02:45,750 --> 00:02:50,040
and we can now do we can also allow

73
00:02:48,269 --> 00:02:52,050
students to do a wider range of research

74
00:02:50,040 --> 00:02:53,430
because we have some this equipment

75
00:02:52,050 --> 00:02:55,500
available and I think that for some of

76
00:02:53,430 --> 00:02:58,410
them knowing just knowing the equipment

77
00:02:55,500 --> 00:02:59,880
is there is going to expand their ideas

78
00:02:58,410 --> 00:03:01,170
about what they can do with research

79
00:02:59,880 --> 00:03:03,180
he'll they'll realize there's a wider

80
00:03:01,170 --> 00:03:04,680
range out there thinking about what the

81
00:03:03,180 --> 00:03:06,690
brain is actually doing which is really

82
00:03:04,680 --> 00:03:08,310
exciting opportunity scene and new

83
00:03:06,690 --> 00:03:09,690
equipment just makes me really think

84
00:03:08,310 --> 00:03:11,160
about actually doing an independent

85
00:03:09,690 --> 00:03:13,769
study now I'm never really thought about

86
00:03:11,160 --> 00:03:16,410
doing one before now new equipment it

87
00:03:13,769 --> 00:03:18,810
broadens your options we now have the

88
00:03:16,410 --> 00:03:21,950
tools to expand the learning experience

89
00:03:18,810 --> 00:03:21,950
of our majors
Interviews and an overview of the digital lab.
