Writing Center

The Writing Center helps students improve their writing skills for academic and professional success. Whether you need help with essays, research papers, or other writing tasks, the center is here to support you in developing and refining your skills.

Services

The Writing Center staff believes that every DeSales student is a good student and is dedicated to helping them become even better. Their goal is to support your growth and improvement in writing.

  • Professional and trained peer tutoring in writing skills
  • Critical thinking as it pertains to written expression
  • Documentation of sources among the disciplines
  • Referral to and interactions with appropriate resources
  • Coordination with disability services
  • Collaboration with the Gateway to Success program

What to Expect

At the DSU Writing Center, you can get help with any writing skill you are worried about, including:

  • MLA, APA, and other documentation formats
  • Grammar, mechanics, and academic conventions
  • Composing a thesis
  • Organization of paragraphs and/or essays
  • Development of research papers, literature, essays, seminar reports, etc

Please note that tutoring is not the same as editing or proofreading; it is more like coaching. You will learn to improve your academic writing through the process of feedback from the tutor. Please come prepared to your appointment by bringing with you any of the following that pertain to your assignment:

  • Your assignment prompt or rubric
  • Your draft, printed out
  • Your teacher's markup for revisions
  • Sources and texts you are using
