The Writing Center helps students develop and hone the writing skills necessary for academic and professional success.
Services
The Writing Center staff is committed to the belief that every DeSales University student is a good student seeking to become a better student.
- Professional and trained peer tutoring in writing skills
- Critical thinking as pertains to written expression
- Documentation of sources among the disciplines
- Referral to and interactions with appropriate resources
- Coordination with disability services
- Collaboration with the Gateway To Success Program
What to Expect
At the DSU Writing Center, you can get help with any writing skill you are worried about, including:
- MLA, APA, and other documentation formats
- grammar, mechanics, and academic conventions
- composing a thesis
- organization of paragraphs and/or essays
- development of research papers, literature, essays, seminar reports, etc.
Please note that tutoring is not the same as editing or proofreading; it is more like coaching. You will learn to improve your academic writing through the process of feedback from the tutor. Please come prepared to your appointment by bringing with you any of the following that pertain to your assignment:
- your assignment prompt or rubric
- your draft, printed out
- your professor's markup for revisions
- sources and texts you are using
