4-Year Career Development Plan
Our 4-Year Career Development Checklist serves as your simple roadmap to career development success over your four years of college. It begins with a list of key events, activities, and action items for first-year students.
- First-year students: focus on defining a clear academic direction and developing a plan. Begin to develop networking skills. It includes one-on-one career coaching and learning and developing the 8 NACE Career Competencies. Exploration and gaining experience is key.
- Sophomore year: start to consider career options related to your major, find internship opportunities, and work on hard skills like interviewing and resume writing.
- Junior year: continue to gain relevant experience and round out your extracurricular activities, perfect your resume, and become more comfortable with interviews. If you’re interested in grad school, you’ll start exploring advanced degree opportunities and working on your personal statement.
- Senior year! It’s here! Stay active and continue networking, put the finishing touches on resumes/cover letter/reference page, LinkedIn profile, and proactively engage in your job search.
As a DeSales student, you'll also receive the Career Development Center’s Career Planning Guide. It features tons of invaluable information about resumes and letters (including samples!), the most up-to-date tips on professionalism, and so much more.
