Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Holds First Annual Alumni Event
The doctor of physical therapy program held its first-ever alumni event on Saturday, February 11. Forty-seven graduates from the six cohorts were in attendance.
The celebration began with a welcome from Brian Veras D’22, chair of the DPT alumni relations committee, and Father James Greenfield, OSFS ’84, president of DeSales.
Former DeSales professor Julie Skrzat and Dan Breiner D’18 presented an educational session—titled Diabetes Induced Cardiomyopathy—that allowed the physical therapist alums to earn CEUs.
Kay Malek, Ph.D., program director, provided an overview of the program, including the new DeSales DPT/MBA joint program and the upcoming opening of an on-campus DPT pro bono clinic.
The event also recognized Colin McLaughlin D’21 as the first recipient of the DPT Alumnus of the Year award. The reunion featured a pinning ceremony, which involved an alumnus presenting DeSales University DPT pins to members of the third-year cohort. These students have completed their didactic educational components and will begin their final two clinical internships before sitting for the national board examination in October.
The day ended with a tour of the remodeled Wills Hall and the developing pro bono clinic site in Chappuis Hall. The DPT alumni relations committee, part of the DPT student association, organized the event. The committee members are Brian Veras D’22, Madison Oren D’23, Michael Cannon D’24, and Kyra Dubost D’25.
