DeSales Designated Military Friendly School, Achieves Coveted Gold Status
For the 110-plus veterans, ROTC students, and active military members on campus, transitioning to civilian life and achieving educational goals can pose distinct challenges.
That’s why DeSales University is committed to developing the services and programming necessary to address the unique needs of service members. In recognition of that work, the University has once again been designated a Military Friendly school, even earning the coveted gold status.
“Achieving gold status means we have leading practices, outcomes, and effective programs,” says Joann Haws, director of the Office of Veterans and Military Services. “Our office is so fortunate to work with students who have very special stories. It is gratifying to know we are providing services encouraging educational success as they move on to the next chapter.”
Some of the services provided by the Office of Veterans and Military Services include helping veteran and active military students identify and utilize benefits, offering a student lounge to encourage fellowship and mentorship, developing specialized opportunities for engagement such as a Student Veterans of America Chapter, and hosting events to honor our military students. One such upcoming event is the Vietnam War Veterans Commemoration Ceremony.
“Our office is honored to be a commemorative partner, along with the United States Department of Defense,” says Haws. “On March 29, the fifth anniversary of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, DeSales will honor those who served in the Vietnam War. We have an alumnus who served and will be in attendance, along with guest speakers with compelling stories.”
