Celebrate National Poetry Month at the Trexler Library
Come celebrate National Poetry Month at the library! Trexler Library has two ways for you to get involved: an interactive display in our lobby and a poetry reading on Wednesday, April 24.
The theme for our display this year is haiku, a traditional form of Japanese poetry consisting of 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables, and the third has 5 syllables. Enter to win a book a poetry by writing a haiku and posting it to our display. Entries are accepted until April 30, and the winner will announced on May 1.
In addition to our display, Trexler Library is hosting our annual Spring Poetry Reading, showcasing student work. It will be held on Wednesday, April 24, from 12-1pm, in the Butz Room. The poetry of Rhianna Delich, Jenna Haydt, and Grace Manidis will be featured. Faculty members Stephen Myers and Juilene McKnight will also be reading their work.
The Academy of American Poets began National Poetry Month in 1996 in order to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the US. Since then, it has grown to become the largest literary celebration in world.
