Do you enjoy your freedom to read? Then speak out with Trexler Library during Banned Books Week!

Banned Books Week 2018 is September 23 to 29 with the theme “Banning Books Silences Stories.” Launched in 1982 in response to a surge in books being challenged in schools, bookstores, and libraries, Banned Books Week celebrates the “freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.”

Follow along as Trexler Library fights censorship and speaks out for intellectual freedoms with virtual read-out videos on our social media platforms (@desales_trexler). We will be posting videos throughout Banned Books Week of students and staff reading from banned and challenged books. Any students interested in participating in the read-out videos can contact Katelyn.Manwiller@desales.edu.

Faculty – looking for resources to discuss censorship and intellectual freedom with your students? Check out Banned Books Week’s list of Educator Resources, the American Library Association’s Top Ten Most Challenged Books lists, and Top 100 Banned/Challenged Books for 2000-2009.
