Annual Spring Choral Concert at DeSales
DeSales University's Division of Performing Arts is pleased to announce its annual Spring Choral Concert to be presented at 8 PM on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21. The concert, under the direction of Mark Helms, will be performed in the Connelly Chapel on the campus of DeSales University.
"The month of April is a very special time on campus," says John Bell, head of the division of performing arts. "The promise of spring leads to an energy of rejuvenation in the air. Our choral singers provide us with the opportunity to quiet ourselves and marvel as they raise their voices in song, celebrating hope and new beginnings."
The Spring Choral Concert features a wide variety of choral music, both sacred and secular, that explores the range of human emotions, expressed in a variety of musical styles, performed by the DeSales University Chorale and Schola Cantorum. Featured on this year's concert is a set of pieces based on biblical love poetry from the Song of Solomon, proclaiming that "many waters cannot quench love," composed by Rene Clausen, Ola Gjeilo, Healey Willan, and William Billings. These pieces are paired with several folk song arrangements by composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams and Craig Hella Johnson that express the ability of love to overcome even the most powerful forces of water. A number of other selections will also be performed, including a set of part-songs by the great Johannes Brahms, performed by the Schola Cantorum.
Admission to the concert is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door. This concert tends to reach capacity very quickly and patrons are urged to purchase their tickets early.
