How to Find The Right Internship and Make It Work For You
You need experience to get a job, yet you need a job to get that experience. This is a common dilemma college students face every year. The solution is to find an internship during your college career. Internships and other work experiences on your resume are essential to getting good job offers when you are ready to graduate. At DeSales, the Career Development Center (CDC) is the spot to help you get started.
First Step
Contact the CDC and request to be added to the DeSales Internship Program (DSU-Intern) Blackboard Organization Page. This asynchronous orientation provides you with the information and tools to get started. It is truly that simple.
Second Step
Think about where and when you want to do your internship. What specific area of your major interests you the most? Where in your schedule do you have room for an internship: Fall, Spring, or Summer?
Third Step
Use the tools on the DeSales Internship Program Blackboard Organization Page to begin your search. Use the sample email to craft your inquiries and be sure to meet with the Assistant Director of Experiential Learning for a quick focus meeting and additional instruction on enrolling.
Fourth Step
Once you begin that internship, remember that an internship is a training ground for you. You’re there to learn and make the most of your experience. Present yourself as a professional in your actions, your attire, and your contribution to the team. Focus on your goals, because you never know how it will impact your future career.
