- The DeSales University Center for Communication Sciences and Disorders (CCSD), located in Wills Hall, includes the speech-language pathology program's on-campus clinical training site for master's level students. The Center has state-of-the-art facilities offering assessment and treatment services that include speech, language, feeding/swallowing, and voice and is available to the broader Lehigh Valley community. As part of your graduate work, you will help diverse client populations at the Center.

Although the DeSales University Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (MS-SLP) program is relatively new, its success speaks volumes. As an SLP, you will examine, diagnose, and treat patients across a range of disorders in a variety of school and healthcare settings.
What Will You Study?
All speech-language pathology students will complete clinical practicum in addition to required courses.
The DeSales Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology includes interdisciplinary coursework as well as scientific study and clinical practice. This is a full-time academic program, and the courses are completed in sequence as listed in the curriculum.

The DeSales University Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology brings together a cohort of students looking to lead the field of communication and swallowing disorders. Upon completion of the program, students will:
- Use their knowledge and skills to integrate scientific inquiry and evidence-based clinical reasoning into everyday practice, addressing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Be prepared to adapt and lead in the complex and dynamic healthcare environment of today and tomorrow through inter-professional collaborations.
- Advance innovations in clinical practice through implementation science and cross-disciplinary efforts to improve the quality and delivery of services.
Admission Requirements

- Two (2) letters of recommendation
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) overall and in the sciences
- 25 observation hours with an ASHA-certified, licensed provider
Prerequisites
To be eligible for the speech-language pathology program, you need to complete foundational courses to ensure your academic success. Prerequisites include Introduction to Biology or Biology I, Statistics, Introduction to Psychology, A Chemistry or Physics course, Phonetics, Audiology, Speech and Hearing Science, Introduction to Communication Sciences & Disorders, Anatomy & Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism, and Language Development.
Students must achieve a grade C or higher in all courses to satisfy prerequisite course requirements.

In addition to the traditional master's program pathway for new graduate students, DeSales also provides program planning at the undergraduate level with our communication sciences and disorders program. This program is available as a traditional 4-year bachelor degree, providing the foundation to enter into the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program. We also offer a 3+2 year option to qualified students. These students will start working towards their master's degree in their fourth year of study.
The Master of Science (M.S.) education program in speech-language pathology (residential) at DeSales University is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, +1 (800) 498-2071 or +1 (301) 296-5700.
Candidacy is a “preaccreditation” status with the CAA, awarded to developing or emerging programs for a maximum period of 5 years. The program was awarded a candidacy accreditation status on February 19, 2022, by the CAA. This candidacy accreditation cycle is effective February 1, 2022 through January 1, 2027.
