Dr. Rodger Berg teaches General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Laboratory Safety to undergraduate students and master of education students at DeSales. In addition, he teaches undergraduate General Physics. Before joining the DSU faculty, Dr. Berg received his BS degree in chemistry from Muhlenberg College and his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Lehigh University.
Dr. Berg loves teaching and advising students. He has directed numerous student research projects in analytical chemistry, particularly in spectroscopy, and has supervised nearly 50 student internships in various industries ranging from pharmaceutical to environmental. He continues to be invited by high schools in the Lehigh Valley area to speak on safety in science laboratories and careers in chemistry. He is an active member of the Lehigh Valley Section of the American Chemical Society, serving on the program committee every year.
Dr. Berg and his wife, Audrey, have two children: Jonathan, who is a chemical engineer working for Air Products and Chemicals in Texas, and Laura, who is a junior accounting and finance double major at DeSales. Dr. Berg is active in his church as a lector, Sunday church school teacher, and council member and active in the Exchange Club of Northampton, Pennsylvania, as a board member, bulletin editor, Service-to-Youth chairman, and Student Loan Fund chairman. During his free time, Dr. Berg enjoys watching and playing all kinds of sports, following the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Minnesota Vikings. He is both secretary and treasurer of his Thursday night bowling league.
