This policy applies to all visitors of the DeSales website.

The policy of DeSales University is to respect the privacy of all website visitors to the extent permitted by law. This online privacy statement is intended to inform you of the ways in which DeSales collects information via its website and how DeSales uses this information, and the ways in which we will protect any information you choose to provide us.

The University may use enrollment management and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms to better understand prospective student engagement with institutional web properties. These tools may associate website activity with information previously provided to the University through inquiry forms, applications, or other interactions. This information is used solely to improve communication, provide relevant information, and enhance the user experience.

Information DeSales Collects

There are four types of information that this site may collect during your visit: network traffic logs, web visit logs, cookies, and information voluntarily provided by you.

Network Traffic Logs

In the course of ensuring network security and consistent service for all users, the University employs software programs to do such things as monitor network traffic, identify unauthorized access or access to nonpublic information, detect computer viruses and other software that might damage University computers or the network, and monitor and tune the performance of the University network. In the course of such monitoring, these programs may detect such information as e-mail headers, addresses from network packets, and other information. Information from these activities is used only for the purpose of maintaining the security and performance of the University's networks and computer systems. Personally identifiable information from these activities is not released to external parties without your consent unless required by law.

Web Visit Logs

University websites routinely collect and store information from online visitors to help manage those sites and improve service. This information includes the pages visited on the site, the date and time of the visit, the internet address (URL or IP address) of the referring site, the domain name and IP address from which the access occurred, the version of browser used, the capabilities of the browser, and search terms used on our search engines.  The University generally uses this information in aggregate to understand how the website is used and to support system administration and security. In certain cases, website activity may be associated with an individual when that person voluntarily provides identifying information through a form or other interaction with the University. Personally identifiable information is not shared with external parties without consent unless required by law.

How DeSales Uses This Information

We limit the collection of Personal Data to that which is required to fulfill our contractual obligations and/or provide services to you. We also collect digital Personal Data to deliver and better tailor the features, performance, and support of our services and website, and to offer you additional information about our services, personalized to you, your role, and interests at DeSales.

DeSales will retain your information no longer than necessary to carry out our institutional mission, improve our website and services, and otherwise as permitted by applicable law.

How DeSales Protects Your Information

DeSales University maintains a multi-disciplinary approach to privacy, aimed to address all aspects of information protection, including both security and privacy programs. We strive to protect your information from any unauthorized access and/or disclosure. Systems that solicit or display personally identifiable information are protected by authentication and authorization controls and Web-based experiences involving personal information are secured by SSL (Secure Sockets Layer protocol) with 128-bit encryption or higher. The University reminds users, however, that no method of transmission over the Internet can be 100% secure. DeSales cannot guarantee absolute security of our systems, nor guarantee that information supplied will not be intercepted while being transmitted over the internet.

Solicitation of Information from Children

DeSales University does not knowingly solicit or collect Personal Data from users under the age of 13, nor do we knowingly send users under the age of 13 requests for Personal Data. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information about your child, please contact us, and we will attempt to delete the information.

Rights Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Any person located within the EU / UK is granted the rights and protections of the GDPR. Such persons are given the following rights:

  • The right to access his/her Personal Data that is collected by the University.
  • The right to correct inaccurate Personal Data collected by the University.
  • The right to have the University erase Personal Data if: the Personal Data is no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which it was collected; the user withdraws consent; the user objects to the processing of Personal Data and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for the processing; or the personal data is unlawfully processed.
  • The right to restrict the collection of Personal Data if its accuracy is contested; the processing is unlawful; the University no longer needs the Personal Data for the purposes of processing such information; or the user objects to the processing of Personal Data pending the verification that legitimate grounds of the University override those of the user.
  • The right to receive Personal Data in a commonly used format for its transmission by the University to another controller of data if the processing is based on consent or a contract, and the Personal Data is processed by automated means.
  • The right to object to the processing of Personal Data at any time.
  • The right to oppose the use of automated decision-making; and the right to withdraw consent.

You also have legal rights and remedies against any breach of your personal privacy according to Articles 77 to 84 of the GDPR. Any person who wishes to exercise any of the above rights may contact the University as indicated above.
