Biography

Mary McDermott is a filmmaker and screenwriter. Her work has shown and placed in multiple festivals, and she was a top-ten finalist in the Slamdance Screenplay Competition. Mary also co-wrote the 2020 documentary What Will Become of Us (Ayanian and Myers), which has screened on PBS stations around the country. She holds a BA in History from Villanova University, an MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University, an MA in English from West Chester University, and is currently a PhD student in Clemson University’s Rhetorics, Communications, and Information Design program (RCID). For her doctoral dissertation on narrative, filmmaking, and editing, Mary is in preproduction for an interactive fiction film. She has also written a comedy that she plans to produce as a podcast in the spring. A seasoned instructor for many years, Mary is thrilled to have joined the DeSales community.
