DeSales University M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology Program Earns Initial CAA Accreditation

DeSales University's Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program has received initial accreditation from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA), the accrediting body of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The five-year accreditation, approved at the CAA's February 11–13, 2026 meeting, is effective February 1, 2026, through January 31, 2031.

The accreditation marks a major milestone for DeSales University and reflects nearly six years of work by faculty, staff, and university leadership to build a rigorous graduate program that prepares speech-language pathologists to serve patients with communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan.

"This accreditation reflects the dedication and perseverance of everyone who has invested in this program," said Susana L. Keller, program director of the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and chair of the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders. "I look forward to continuing to grow our excellent programs and serving our students and the broader community."

The recognition is also a significant achievement for DeSales University's College of Healthcare Professions, confirming that the program meets national standards for graduate education in speech-language pathology and prepares graduates for professional practice.

“This milestone reflects close to six years of hard work, and steadfast commitment to excellence,” said Dr. Leo-Felix M. Jurado, Inaugural Dean and Professor of the College of Healthcare Professions. “The accomplishment is a testament to the quality of the program and the outstanding efforts of the faculty and staff. I look forward to the continued growth and success of the program.”

CAA accreditation signals to students, employers, and the public that the DeSales SLP program meets or exceeds national benchmarks for curriculum, clinical education, and faculty qualifications. Graduates of CAA-accredited programs are eligible to pursue national certification, the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP), through ASHA, as well as the state licensure required for professional practice.

The M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at DeSales prepares students for careers across a range of clinical settings, including hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, and private practice. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, compassionate patient care, and DeSales’ Salesian mission of holistic human development.
