First-year students in the Class of 2027 are learning all about life at DeSales.

Faculty, staff, and students kicked off Orientation 2023 and welcomed the newest Bulldogs to campus during move in at Tocik, Conmy, and Aviat halls.

“DeSales is different and new. I like how small it is and how close I am to home. When I first got here, I was a little nervous to meet new people. But it turns out I’m meeting a whole bunch of new people, which I love.”

This year’s Orientation theme is Road Trip: Begin Your Character Journey, and events include a welcome Mass; field day competitions, including a home run derby, bingo, and tug of war; and singing, dance, and talent competitions. First-year students also participated in their first DSU service project packing thousands of meals for Rise Against Hunger.

“I was president of Key Club, which is a Kiwanis affiliate, at my high school so service is a big part of my past,” says Allison Barilla ’27, an exploratory studies major from Allentown. “To be able to continue that at DeSales is really exciting and really important.”

The Class of 2027 currently comprises 443 first-year students. An additional 60 transfer students have already deposited. The class has a cumulative GPA of 3.4, a 30% diversity rate, and students have come from as far away as Texas, Florida, and Colorado.
