Carl Hammarsten, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Dr. Hammarsten is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Desales University. Prior to joining the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at DeSales, he earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from George Washington University, an MA in Mathematics and Advanced Physics from SUNY Stony Brook, and a BA in Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy from Rice University.
Dr. Hammarsten’s research interests include low-dimensional topology, with an emphasis on algorithmic computation and application, and topological data analysis, with an emphasis on using machine learning to apply the tools and techniques of persistent homology to data from neuroscience.
Dr. Hammarsten is passionate about involving undergraduates in his research. His current and former students have had the opportunity to present their work at conferences in nine different states.
Dr. Hammarsten currently resides in Easton with his wife, Deanna, and their sons Anders and Lucas.
